Big gaming company Electronic Arts has laid off an
unspecified amount of employees in regards to the transition to the
next-generation gaming consoles. It was said that they laid these people off in
an effort to "streamline" its operations and to make sure the company
is ready for the transition.
An EA senior director stated "EA is sharpening its
focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile. In some cases, this
involves reducing team sizes as we evolve into a more efficient organization".
In my opinion I don't think this was a good move to pull.
Not only are they losing many people who have greatly contributed to EA in the
past, but they could've found a more strategic way to approach this. Instead of
reducing team sizes, they could've just moved them around to different
categories and sub categories within a team itself. The next-gen consoles are
going to be so advanced that they may need more people to work on a certain
branch of the company to help produce more products (games) quickly.
What do you guys think? This is just my opinion.
